Luciano (28) scored the winner

Male', MALDIVES - Victory once again overcomes VB sports and this time it’s not 2-0 but 1-0 that helped them to sit on the top of ongoing Dhiraagu Dhivehi League point table. With one match extra played, Victory are now two points ahead of second placed Vyansa and three points clear of major arch rivals. The clash of rivals today lead to 80 minutes deadlocked until Luciano fires home the winner.

VB seemed to be unlucky today missing great open chances to break the deadlock, especially in the first half. Eugene hit the post as early as the first minute of the game from his thunderbolt on the edge of Victory penalty area.

In the 9th minute Assad missed a good chance, instead of being unselfishness he could have take a shot rather than a cross to shiver the nerves of VB sports.

In the 33rd minute Fazeel missed a good opportunity, Ismail sent the pass to unmarked Fazeel and he beat the keeper but keeper Faisal tried twice to hold on to the ball before Fazeel takes the shot.

Neither team showed a better performance in the second half. But Luciano who troubled VB keeper Sinan in the 61st minute headed a cross by Ahmed Saeed in the 80th minute to break the deadlock and the goal happened to be the difference.

After the match Victory coach Mauroof thanked his players for the dedication they showed and agreed they missed key player Rodriguez from the midfield.

“I thank the boys for the hard work they did”

“This is an important match and our aim was to win the three points”

“VB got skillful players and this was a tough game”

“We missed Rodriguez from the midfield, he was suspended and his replacement’s tried their best but couldn’t perform like him. That’s why we failed to supply good ball from midfield to the strikers”

VB coach Carlos agreed his team got spaces in the first half but couldn’t score. He also added his team always lost the game with a single mistake.

“We got many chances in the first half and my team always defeat with a single mistake and we committed that mistake today”

Carlos also admitted their top scorer Fazeel played well in the first half but felt sick in the second half.

“Fazeel played well in the first half, but he felt sick in the second half so I have to substitute him”

“I am satisfied with my team; they played well till the last minute to score a goal”

Carlos also congratulated Victory for the win and when asked about VB’s chance of winning the league he replied: “We can still win the tournament, this is a very surprising tournament”
